Why open core?
Label automation is infrastructure. Infrastructure you cannot inspect is infrastructure you cannot trust. The core of OpenLabelEngine is AGPL-3.0: you can self-host it freely, read every line, and modify it for your own use.
What AGPL-3.0 means for you
- Self-hosting is free. Run the full core on your own hardware, forever.
- Inspect everything. The source code is on GitHub.
- SaaS clause. If you offer OpenLabelEngine as a hosted service to others, you must release your modifications under AGPL. This prevents others from building a closed SaaS on top of our work.
What is commercial?
Enterprise modules (SSO/SAML/SCIM, custom roles, KMS/BYOK, SLA support, audit exports) are available under a commercial license. They are clearly named — there is no hidden proprietary core.

Contributions are welcome. A Contributor License Agreement (CLA) is required for code contributions. See the CONTRIBUTING.md in the repository.
